Yes, Nida it’s a lot about fun things, and slow time, nature, yachts and dinners, yet, artist residency “Drugelių stotis” or “Station Papilon” or “Butterfly station” in english is rather going to be described as an intense experience. It is oriented towards making things happen, nodes, neurons and hearts connected. It is about navigating the tension between Nida’s unique environmental conditions and the rigors of high-level contemporary production. Right?
Powered by the Nida Art Foundation, the residency draws inspiration from the historic intellectual enclave of the Hermann Blode Hotel, which in the late 19th century transformed a remote fishing village into a thriving bohemian centre for European artists and thinkers. Reviving this spirit of creative community for the contemporary era, “Drugelių stotis” (Butterfly Station) operates as a new-generation art society and production hub, providing the vital infrastructure for artists to develop either existing initiatives or entirely new, site-responsive works. While the unique ecosystem of the Curonian Spit allows for deep isolation and focus, the residency remains explicitly output-oriented, culminating in a major public presentation from July 31 to August 2.
The Timeline: From Research to Reveal. The station activates in mid-June. We offer a flexible, “on-and-off” residency model to accommodate artists’ international commitments, provided that the momentum of production is maintained toward our key dates:
July 31 – August 2, 2026: Festival & Opening. This is the season’s milestone — art festival where the works produced or refined during the residency are premiered through exhibitions, performances, or site-specific interventions.
Throughout June and July, the foundation facilitates an interchange between focused studio time and “Salons”—curated dinners and professional networking intended to bridge the gap between research and public discourse.
Support & Commissioning N.A.F. operates as a facilitator for ambitious work. We provide:
-
- An Artist Honorarium for your professional contribution.
- Accommodation and travel to Nida
- A Production Grant tailored to the scale of your project (existing or new).
- Technical Concierge: On-site support to navigate the logistics
At the moment, the residency works on an invitation-only model, yet this might change in the future. We would like to discuss how “Drugelių Stotis” can serve your current or upcoming body of work.
